It’s no secret that processed meats typically contain high levels of sodium. It is added for many reasons: as a preservative, a stabilizer, and of course, the taste! But, as consumers are seeking to reduce sodium in their diets, the food industry is challenged to look for ways to answer the demand. Saltwell recently released “A New Age of Healthier Processed Meats,” a case study that looks at many ways to reduce sodium in processed meats, and how their product compares.
According to Saltwell, while meat alternatives are growing in popularity, experts continue to predict a 14% increase in global meat production by 2030, and poultry production is set to rise by 17%. Consumers still want their meats – just with healthier options.
For the study, Saltwell tested several different types of meat with traditional PDV salt, Saltwell, and a mixture of PDV salt and Potassium Chloride. Follow this link to read Saltwell’s blog and to download the results.
